Smart TVs are convenient: no extra box, one remote. But their app stores are limited, so IPTV players on Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) work a little differently from Firestick or Android apps. Here's what to expect.
How Smart TV Players Work
On a Firestick, you type your login straight into the app. Many Smart TV players do it the other way around:
- The app shows your TV's MAC address on screen.
- On your phone or computer, you visit the app's website and enter that MAC address.
- You paste your M3U link (from your welcome email) on the same page.
- You restart the app on the TV and your channels load.
It sounds roundabout, but it saves you typing a long link with a TV remote.

Samsung vs. LG: Small Differences
- Samsung (Tizen): find players in the Smart Hub. Some apps come and go from the Samsung store, so availability varies by model and region.
- LG (webOS): use the LG Content Store. The process is the same once the app is installed.
- Both: connect the TV by ethernet if you can. Built-in Wi-Fi on TVs is often weaker than on dedicated streaming devices.
When a Streaming Stick Is the Smarter Choice
Choose a Firestick or Android box instead if:
- Your TV is older and apps feel sluggish.
- You want premium players like TiviMate, which aren't available on Tizen or webOS.
- You'd rather avoid a separate app activation fee.
- The TV's app store doesn't list any of the players above.
